Thursday, April 24th, I had the pleasure of introducing the different trades of the video game industry to freshman students from École des Pionniers in Trois-Rivières, in a counselling activity.
The content and support documents were provided by Ma Carrière en jeux (literally: My career in games) an initiative supported by TechnoCompétences and Quebec Game Industry majors.
The activity was quite popular with the students, who had the opportunity to envision a career in a field they are fond of. Indeed all had played one if not numerous games (Runescape being a must, I felt silly with my meek 17 level character along with some of theirs 100+ level ones).
What I found most interesting was offering them the opportunity to put a name to the trades involved with making the difference between a good and an outstanding game, like Level Designers, Coder or 3D Animation artist. Now they will know what to answer to their parents when they are asked what they will want to do when they grow up, instead of the vaguer ‘test video games’…

From Erica Lennan:
We are deeply saddened at the news of the passing of a friend of Alchemic Dream, and a true grandfather of gaming; Gary Gygax. Gary passed away in his home early this morning in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
As someone who has personally been touched by Gary’s inspiration, his smiling face and his creativity, I can only mourn for the loss to the gaming world, and celebrate his many achievements.
Along with Dave Arneson, Gary co-created the so called ‘grandfather of gaming’ with the pen and paper game “Dungeons & Dragons”. The game is considered to have fathered in other RPGs over the years, which inevitably led to the creation of online games such as those we help to support.
Gary helped to not only influence the directors of our company, but also served as an inspiration to our many ranks. We send our sincerest condolences to Gary’s family and friends.

The past months have been incredibly busy for us at Alchemic Dream, filled with highlights and low points, which has led to a silent blog.
With the ‘Season’ upon us, it is a good time for us to pause and wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday regardless of how you chose to celebrate it.
Our warmest wishes to all of our readers!
